The Alpine Historical Society, located in the mountain community of Alpine, California, approximately twenty miles east of San Diego, is dedicated to preserving the history of our community. The goal of the Society is to develop a Heritage Park for Alpine which will include three historic buildings: the Dr. Sophronia Nichols House, built in 1896; Dr. Nichols' Carriage House and the Adam and Caroline Beaty House, built in 1899 with a parklike setting surrounding the buildings.
The mission of the Alpine Historical Society is to encourage the community in an effort to retain structures and sites of historical significance, conserve natural resources and parkland, make available the visible evidence of the history of our community and develop historical programs which emphasize the contributions of the various cultural, ethnic, religious and social groups that comprise the Alpine area.
The John DeWitt Museum and Library is located in the Dr. Nichols House. The houses are open the last Saturday and Sunday of each month between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and by appointment
